I Have Followed You
I have followed you from the ends of the Earth
Places sanctified by volume and mirth
I have followed you and your loud sunshine
Abstract testaments and impulsive handsigns
I have followed you – someone showed me the way
With a thousand bees and a table of clay
I have echoed you in drink and in song
Will I get it right? Will they nod along?
Liquid shards that float like aerosol
Building playgrounds in my head
Let the sideburned masses watch themselves
Give those t-shirts what they want
I have summoned you when the burdens are wrong
I evaporate when I’m singing along
I will follow you ‘cause I think that you’re right
Tunes of oxygen, words of light
